IGN: Sins of a Solar Empire Hands-On

"Most are familiar with the 4X formula of games like Civilization, Master of Orion and Galactic Civilizations. Take over a planet or city, build defenses and research technology upgrades, amass forces to invade and conquer enemy territory, and repeat. Sins of a Solar Empire is built on the same kind of concept, but does away with the 'end turn' button," Charles Onyett of IGN describes his Sins game experience Read the whole article here.

Beta 2 Hands on Exclusive with PC Gamer Magazine

"I've had my eye on Sins of a Solar Empire since I first heard the promise of a 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) space-empire sim executed in real time. I've been nagging for an early copy to try out and this month, I got my wish." PC Gamer's Dan Stapleton says "WARNING: TIME EATER Sins definitely captures that 'jut one more turn!' feeling you get from playing Civilizations, but since there are no turns here, it's even harder to find a good place to stop. Expect to play into the wee hours of the night (and enjoy it)" PC Gamer has Published a two page Exclusive preview for Sins in its September 2007 issue.

Interview with GamersInfo

"Sins of a Solar Empire can be looked at as a new take on the traditional tropes in real-time strategy games. It's been dubbed a 'RT4X game' by Ironclad Games - the X's standing for 'eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate,' What does that mean for you? It means that Sins of a Solar Empire is going for an epic size of game, a 3D real time strategy game in space that will require the player to juggle economics, colonization, diplomacy and even warfare if the player wants even the chance to win."- Sean Michael Whipkey, GamersInfo. Read his interview with Blair Fraser here.

01.06.07
Interview with ShackNews

"Many real-time strategy gamers are beginning to see the minimap as an ancient relic, something fondly remembered but shunned in favor of zooming in close to the battlefield, or far, far out to inspect a player's entire army, spread out over a map like tiny pieces on a chessboard. Ironclad's upcoming Sins of a Solar Empire isn't content with showing players single regions of planets, or even single planets--this game is prepared to showcase entire solar systems, viewable simply by scrolling a mouse wheel back and forth." - David Craddock, ShackNews. Read his interview with Ironclad's Blair Fraser and Stardock's Brian Clair here.

Real-Time Strategy Road Map at Gamespot

Sins of a Solar Empire places third in GameSpot's list of the major RTS games to keep an eye on this year.

"Because multiple battles can flare up all over the galactic map, managing all this mayhem is an interesting challenge, but Ironclad seems to have developed a fairly elegant interface for this. It also helps that the game looks sharp, with battles that feature huge, lumbering capital ships, swift escorts, and plenty of fighter craft zipping by, as well as explosions all around. ... Altogether, Sins of a Solar Empire looks like an intriguing and innovative game that explores a subject rarely covered in RTS games." See the List.

Games For Windows Magazine Preview

Matt Peckham of Games for Windows Magazine writes, "On a dim starlit map, scores of planets twirl in place like floating cat's-eyes. Between two, a miniature battalion of ships inches along a colored line until it reaches its destination, popping out of hyperspace and ringing the planet in a halo of dots. Roll closer--all the way in--and those dots become attacking ships, skimming a gravity well slung around the planet like a disk. At the disk's edge, a lone defending fleet led by several mammoth capital ships bristles and braces for attack as scouts and colony ships scramble for safety. "

First Impressions with GameSpy

"Everything in the game happens in real-time, but its scale is as massive as you'd expect from a turn-based empire builder. You can appreciate its scale in very practical terms, too -- you can focus, to levels of excruciating detail, on anything from the most miniscule feature on the wing of a fighter, to a broad view of the entire star sector." - Miguel Lopez, GameSpy. Pre-Order Taking now available!

Ever played a game where you knew...just knew that if you could have talked to the developers even a week or two before they went gold that they could have made the game so much better?

With Sins of a Solar Empire that is exactly what you'll be able to do! Users who pre-order the game will be given access to the beta. No non-disclosures. You don't like what we're doing, you're free to howl from the rooftops about it. Our job (at Ironclad and Stardock) is to make sure that the final game is as good as we can make it.

By pre-ordering and being in the beta, you can let us know what things you think needs to be tweaked. What game mechanics need refinement or even what additions you think the game makes.

That way, the final game is not just more reliable and stable but also has the balancing and tweaking that normally gamers have to wait to some post release "patch" (for those games that even do address balance after release).

The first beta is due out after the New Year.

We look forward to seeing you! Just click on the store link to pre-order. You can download it or you can have the final version sent to you in its retail box form (and still download it).

Pre order Sins of a Solar Empire now.
